Role clarification

The Senior Buyer plays a key role in ensuring the cost-effective and timely procurement of goods and services across the organisation. This role involves managing supplier relationships, negotiating commercial terms, and driving value through strategic sourcing and cost reduction initiatives. The Senior Buyer supports the Supply Chain Manager in developing procurement processes and in delivering a high-performing, agile supply chain function that aligns with business needs and objectives. 

Duties and responsibilities

• Manage the purchasing of goods and services in line with business requirements, demand forecasts, and risk considerations.

• Create, implement, and roll out procurement processes and ensure stakeholder compliance.

• Build and maintain excellent working relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.

• Conduct ongoing supplier benchmarking, market analysis, and sourcing of alternative suppliers.

• Evaluate supplier performance and work with stakeholders to investigate and resolve any performance issues.

• Lead cost reduction initiatives through supplier negotiations and contract optimisation.

• Negotiate contracts, pricing structures, lead times, and payment terms.

• Ensure favourable commercial terms are agreed and documented.

• Support stock management processes, including safety stocks, reorder points, and reduction of duplication and obsolescence.

• Ensure stakeholder adherence to inventory procedures, including goods receipt, stock checking, and usage reporting.

• Identify opportunities to improve procurement efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance supplier performance.

• Conduct regular market research to remain informed of industry trends and supply chain risks.

• Ensure procurement decisions are aligned with business needs through close collaboration with internal departments.

• Provide proactive communication and guidance on procurement activity.

• Maintain accurate procurement records and contribute to reporting on procurement KPIs.

• Ensure compliance with procurement policy, quality standards, and ethical sourcing requirements. • Deputise for the Supply Chain Manager when required.

• Support the Supply Chain Manager in the continual development and improvement of supply chain practices. 

Minimum Qualifications

• Proven experience in a senior buying or procurement role. 

• Proficiency in procurement systems and Microsoft Office tools.

• Already holds or is working towards CIPS or CIM qualification. 

• In partnership with the HSE department, ensure the continuous improvement of safety and environmental performance and compliance with all laws, regulations, and industry standards/codes • Reports all incidents or breaches of policy or regulations to the line manager

• Commitment to proactive intervention where an unsafe act or condition is observed

• Adherence to Deutsche Windtechnik Offshore Ltd.’s integrated management system, ensuring document control and improvements to key processes are maintained

Desirable Competencies

• Experience with ERP systems and inventory control.

• Knowledge of procurement compliance, sustainability, and risk management.

• Background in fast-paced industries such as manufacturing, utilities, or construction. • Strong negotiation, contract management, and supplier relationship skills.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.

• Ability to analyse data and identify cost-saving opportunities.

• Teamwork, collaboration, and willingness to take responsibility independently.

• Strong communication skills (written and verbally) with good attention to detail, accuracy and methodical in work processes.

• Full UK Driving License

• Proactive approach and confident in decision-making.

• Focused on continuous improvement and delivering value.

Other essentials
